WHAT IS A QME?
A QME is a "Qualified Medical Evaluator" who is a doctor licensed by the state to perform examinations for workers' compensation cases.

Our attorneys prepare our clients for their QME appointments. If you have an upcoming QME appointment and do not know what to do, call our office at 831-753-9127 to make an appointment with one of our attorneys to help with your next steps.

A QME exams the injured worker and then writes a report.

The parties - insurance company, defense attorney, applicant attorneys - use that report and the judge can rely on that report to calculate the permanent disability, future medical treatment, etc. of the injured worker.

It is VERY important that you do not miss a QME appointment if one is scheduled for you. There may be consequences, such as loss of benefits if you do not show up.
There are also AME - Agreed Medical Evaluators. This is when both parties - applicant attorney and defense attorney agree to use an evaluator rather than using an evaluator from the state's QME panel.

If you receive a letter offering a QME and you have questions, contact our office to make an appointment with one of our attorneys!
